Maine Travel Alerts & Advisories

Here are some things to help you when planning your visit to Maine.

Road Construction

The Maine Department of Transportation is planning a full closure of I-295 in Portland from October 22nd to October 25th, 2021. MaineDOT is replacing the bridge that carries the interstate over Veranda Street at Exit 9 and reconfiguring the roadways beneath the bridge to improve safety and mobility. During the interstate closure, I-295 will be closed to public travel southbound beginning immediately south of Exit 10 (Bucknam Road) and ending at Exit 8 (Washington Avenue) and northbound beginning immediately north of Exit 9 (Veranda Street) and ending south of Exit 10 (Bucknam Road).

Travelers to and from points north of Portland on I-295 can take an alternate route northbound on I-95 via exit 52 to I–295 / US 1 VIA FALMOUTH SPUR or from I-295 southbound via exit 11 to I-95.

The latest information about this project can be found on the project website.

Beginning May 1, travelers from all states will be able to travel to Maine without providing a negative COVID-19 test result or quarantining, unless otherwise determined by the Maine CDC. If a state experiences a spike in COVID-19 cases, the Maine CDC will apply testing and quarantine protocols to all travelers from that state.
