Holbrook Island Sanctuary is unique among Maine’s many state parks—unchanged by modern park facilities, visitors can walk along old roads and trails to discover the unique and varied ecosystems protected here for a truly unspoiled piece of Maine. The sanctuary borders Penobscot Bay in Brooksville and is open year-round.
The many trails offer easy walks to strenuous hikes through a diverse landscape—through fields and forests and along the shoreline. Walk along the beaches and rocky coast or through the steep forested hillside. Other popular activities include birdwatching, fishing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, and swimming. There is a picnic area so bring a lunch and enjoy the sights and sounds as you dine al fresco. Keep your eyes peeled for signs of deer, fox, muskrat, beavers, otter, porcupine, bobcat and coyote.
